You think that retiling your roof would be an extremely expensive job. It’s undeniable that doing repairs to your roof will cost you money, but you can save yourself by purchasing reclaimed roofing materials such as second hand slates. Reclaimed slate tiles are readily available for a great price. They’re usually taking from old building scheduled for demolition or from those that have had extensive repairs and retiling done to their roofs.  As a result it’s easy to come by second hand slates.

However, just because the tiles have been used once already doesn’t mean that they’ll be of a low quality, in fact you’ll find that many second hand slates are still in excellent condition and will last for many more years to come. There’s no need to worry about the buying tiles in poor condition when you purchase second hand slates as they’re usually thoroughly checked over for an imperfections and unusable tiles will be discarded.

Of courses the main benefit of buying second hand slates is the price, they’re a lot cheaper than brand new tiles. However, many people choose them for aesthetic reasons as the find the slightly worn and used appearance of reclaimed tiles preferable to brand new tiles. The appearance of reclaimed slate is typically much more suitable for older buildings which can some times look strange which untouched, uniformed tiles on their roofs.
